Hey, I'm Anja
Project manager. Parent. Expat living in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Several years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually opened a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to Germany wasn't in our long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something much more significant.
The initial few months were intense — unfamiliar systems, new routines, new expectations. Daily tasks seemed more daunting than they ought to be.
The Adaptation Phase
There was culture shock, doubt, and plenty of hands-on learning. Gradually, habits took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt steady.
Why I Created Cottage Forest Union
Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Germany.
What This Site Stands For (And What It Isn’t)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from living in Germany
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something meaningful changes
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Germany goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue to document what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Düsseldorf or anywhere in Germany, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Cheers,
Anja
